The best laid plans of mice and Mouseholders’ often go awry. After telling you that I was going to try to shorten my newscasts, the next two were just as long as they ever have been. I confess that’s because I not only am interested in the head of each story but de-tail.
I told you that my plan for a morning and evening newscast was an experimental idea. So I’m going to try another experiment this morning and I very much need you to judge it – comparing it with the longer newscasts that I have been doing until now.
There is no doubt this morning that President Obama is considering putting boots on the ground once again in Iraq. The beheading two days ago of American journalist James Foley has hit a nerve in our President, as well as in the American and world conscience, that James Foley’s death cannot go unanswered. You can be sure that President Obama is being given counsel – both political and military – with every pro and con to an American return of boots on Iraqi soil. This would be a very good time to let your opinion be known to our president because right now he appears to be more open than he ever has been to what this nation believes should happen next.
Call 202–456–1414. You won’t get President Obama, but you can leave a message for him on any subject including whether our military should return to Iraq in enough force to, working with other nations, stop Isis there. It’s possible that you will get an actual member of his staff, but your message either way will be counted like a poll is counted and will be conveyed to President Obama. Be respectful and plan what you’re going to say before you call.
American military airplanes made six strikes today in the areas that surround Mosul Dam in Iraq. Kurdish troops have now taken complete charge of the dam and have chased away the Isis troops who controlled it for a very little while. They remain in pockets outside the dam.
Isis has struck oil and they’re making a killing with it. Isis now controls 7 oil fields and two small refineries in northern Iraq. They are now making as much as two million dollars per day by selling up to forty thousand barrels to other jihadist groups and in illicit markets. They sell their oil for between 25 dollars and 60 dollars a barrel. That’s not nearly as much as the current legitimate market rate of 102 dollars a barrel, but it puts money in their jeans, or whatever they are wearing, and adds a great deal of money to their jihadist cause. They use much of that money for recruiting all over the world. This has been going on for many months.
Oil and money and blood and gore everywhere Isis goes.
Attorney General Eric Holder announced today that a criminal investigation is being launched against Isis for their barbaric beheading of the GlobalPost freelance reporter, James Foley. Holder gave a threat-sounding statement directed solely at Isis about America’s power everywhere. Many in Congress have already responded to Holder almost with a laugh. Their question is what power will a criminal investigation have on Isis when it’s had absolutely none on the criminal investigation of Benghazi.
Sherlock Holmes would be proud of Britain’s intelligence officials today. They joined with American intelligence to zero in on the man who was on Isis video and took off the head of James Foley. The man appears to have originally been from London and spoke with a clear English accent. A former hostage told England’s newspaper the Guardian that the man was the leader of three British militants “whose main job is to guard foreign captives in Syria’s northern city of Raqqa which is an Isis stronghold.” So far we know that the man’s name is John and that he sends ransom notes regularly to the families of those in captivity by the use of Skype.
England also says up to 500 Brits left their country to join Isis and other militant groups since the beginning of the Syrian war in 2011. British intelligence officials say that these Brits are “willing to carry out suicide missions and beheadings.” The scariest part of England’s announcement is that at least half of these still-Isis members have returned and blended into the crowd with the English people.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel warned today that Isis is “beyond anything that we have seen…So we must prepare for everything.” He explained at a press conference that the attempted rescue early this summer of James Foley and the other journalists that Isis had kidnapped was foiled because they kidnap victims were not where America thought they were. Coming up empty handed they did kill some of the Isis militants without losing even one American soldier.
The International News Service has brought to light the fact that Isis wrote several venomous emails to the parents of James Foley asking for a one hundred million dollar ransom for his return. In addition to the money, Isis demanded the same kind of prisoner swaps that were done with Beau Berghdahl. The final email was received by his parents a week ago and for the first time said nothing about a ransom.
What a difference a year makes. One year ago, President Obama was declaring that Syria’s leader Bashar al-Assad was the devil incarnate and had to be removed from power at all costs. Today Obama finds himself on the very same side as Assad in fighting the real devil incarnate – Isis. That in no way means that Assad is at least on the devil’s side except for Isis. Our president drew the now laughable red line in the sand originally because Assad was using chemical warfare against Syrian rebels and killing hundreds of children that way too.
“I’m back!”
Just when you may have thought that all the many scandals were over with President Obama’s administration, a new one rose its ugly head today. The questionable swap of leading Taliban officers for AWOL soldier Beau Bergdahl has become even more questionable today. The Government Accountability Office has issued their opinion that the Defense Department – the Pentagon – flat out broke the law by not notifying key Capitol committees 30 days before the swap AND that the Defense Department used money that wasn’t theirs to make the swap. The immediate response from the Pentagon to the Government Accountability Office was “Phooey!”
It is a highly dangerous fact that in order to get Isis and really break their power, it will require America and the EU to work closely enough with nations like Syria, Iran, and other nations that have been our enemy to, at the very best, possibly accomplish what it will take. Isis is the richest terrorist organization in the world and is not like either Russia or the United States – in debt to its eyeballs. Only a joint working together with Muslim states as well as the Western world, will stop the greatest threat to our world that has existed since Adolf Hitler put his boots on the ground. And no matter how well-intentioned, this will require walking an international tightrope that without Christ’s support will do what Hamas said to Israel – “open the gates of hell.”
Hamas announced it has killed 11 suspected Israeli informers. That announcement came after Israel had targeted and killed 3 top Hamas military commanders through airstrikes on a house In Southern Gaza Strip.
It has now become clear that Israel’s attempt to destroy all Hamas tunnels in Gaza was incomplete. Israel appears to have discovered and destroyed all of the tunnels that lead into their state, but it is now being discovered that many of the tunnels that led to Egypt are still usable. Egypt worked hard during previous battles between Israel and Hamas to destroy those tunnels. They destroyed a thousand of them. But about five hundred yet remain. All the tunnels big enough to carry cars and trucks are gone. But smaller tunnels into Egypt could yet create real trouble for them and for Israel.
The United States Supreme Court has temporarily granted a request to put on hold same-sex marriage in Virginia. In coming weeks or months Supreme Court will announce whether it will accept pending petitions from one or more states, including Virginia, to review their bans on men marrying men or women marrying women. Both state and federal courts in this past year have almost unanimously ruled against same-sex marriage. This has given those who oppose same-sex marriage new hope that gay marriage will be made illegal in all 50 of the United States.
As if America’s military wasn’t being shrunk enough, 34 sailors have been kicked out of our Navy. They were the ones that were part of a cheating ring that went unnoticed for at least seven years at a nuclear power training site in Charleston, South Carolina. 10 other sailors are still under investigation. The sailors had nothing to do with operating nuclear weapons, but were supposed to be able to repair any of the Navy’s 83 nuclear-powered submarines. The 10 who were at the center of the cheating ring remain under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Thought at first to be a widespread scandal, it is now determined that the Charleston base is the only place that was cheating.
Great news regarding the doctor who was rushed from Liberia to a hospital in Atlanta with the Ebola virus. Dr. Kent Brantly has fully recovered after taking experimental shots to kill the virus and the organization with which he works – Samaritan Purse – says he will be released from the hospital shortly. All of Brantly’s clothes and other material items he has handled had to be destroyed. The same disease has killed 1,350 victims – a number which keeps growing all across West Africa.
Seventh-day Adventists are widely known for not eating any meat. Seventh-day Adventists live an average of ten years longer than other Christians do. But all Christians and everyone else may wish they didn’t eat meat at least for the last few months because of a slaughterhouse recall of nearly nine million pounds of cancerous meat. Two co-owners of the Rancho Feeding Corporation in Petaluma, California. Both men have been arrested and their facilities has been closed down. The minimum admitted they knew what they were doing at the time of loading the contaminated meat onto trucks and sending them law to grocery stores. The two men are Felix Sandoval Cabrera and Robert Singleton. Sandoval admits he purchased a great deal of cattle that had “cancer-eye” assignment diseased cattle. A manager of the cattle company, Jesse J. Amaral Jr., the former president and manager of Rancho Feeding Corporation, has confessed to directing the rest of the employees to carve “USDA Condemned” out of certain carcasses and to process them for sale and distribution, despite their having been rejected by the veterinarian from the United States Department of Agriculture. A fourth employee, Eugene Corda The meat recalled in February of this year most likely reached 35 states and Guam. If convicted, Singleton faces up to three years in prison with one year of supervised release and up to two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in fines. Amaral, Cabrera and Corda could receive up to twenty years in prison and also two hundred and fifty thousand dollars each in fines.
A protesting crowd gathered at Los Angeles City Hall yesterday to shout “Drone free LAPD.” The Stop LAPD Spying Coalition tried their hardest to get a meeting with LA Mayor Eric Garcetti but were told he wasn’t available. The Los Angeles police department has recently purchased two Draganflyer X–6 drones, but so far has not explained either their purpose or the limitations the Police Department will put on them. Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Bruce Borihan said a federal agency is storing the drones and he does not know the drones capabilities. In June, Borihan said “The Los Angeles Police Department will never, ever give up public confidence for a piece of police equipment.” He said yesterday there would be a long review before several committees before the drones replaced the far more expensive manned helicopters that they currently use.

The tension that has been constant in Ferguson, Missouri, seems to have slowed down some. It could be the presence of Eric Holder, a man most of the black residents deeply respect. An investigation into all that occurred that took the life of Michael Brown continues. The latest contradiction to a previous story was yesterday’s revelation that although Officer James Wilson, the shooter, was rushed to the hospital with bruises and a swollen face, he did not suffer eye socket damage.
Something is kept out of the news media perhaps because of this being so constant. Most people live there ever seen these statistics, but it is an absolute fact that more officers have been killed in the line of duty by American citizens over the last 10 years than soldiers in the War in Iraq by people who despise us.
Here are the stories that don’t make national headlines and aren’t even often and even mentioned in the news. If you will scroll down to this part of the text and pictures, you’ll see the faces of the few officers were killed trying to detain their suspects over the last few weeks. They were conducting routine traffic stops and question the incidence that they were called to and while all eyes were riveted on one town in Missouri.
Murdered this month in the line of duty
It was a mutual admiration society between the 2012 Republican ticket for the presidency, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan as they spoke together at the Union League Club of Chicago. Both encouraged the other one to run for the presidency in 2016. The two took turns bashing President Obama over his failed policies both domestic and foreign. The event was the release of Paul Ryan’s new book The Way Forward: Renewing the American Idea.
One of the most successful singers of today – Josh Gracin, who ended fourth on the second season of American Idol – a musical artist who has recorded four Top 10 hits over a ten year span – scared his fans at 5 o’clock this afternoon by posting on Facebook what was obviously a suicide note. The note started by talking about serious problems he was having in his marriage and concluded “Please remember me as someone who gave his all in his music… Pray for my family as they carry on in the world without me. Goodbye.” Gracin apologized on Facebook later this evening. He is tonight in a psychiatric hospital and asking for your prayers. Gracin has been married to his wife, Anne Marie, since 2001. They have four children.

Pope Francis has now made the statement that all war against Isis is a “just war.”
The parents of James Foley said they could not have gotten through their son’s brutal murder if they did not have faith in Jesus Christ. His father said James is “finally free and in Heaven.”
James Foley was a graduate of Jesuit run Marquette University. A letter from James that he wrote in 2011 after his release from captivity, a captivity that had been caused by Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. These lines speak volumes of what James went through as he was about to be beheaded. He wrote, “If nothing else, prayer was the glue that enabled my freedom, and inner freedom first, and later the miracle of being released during a war in which the regime had no real incentive to free us. It didn’t make sense, but faith did.”
