The Mark of The Beast:Chapters 9 to 12 (Left Behind-The Kids)

Natalie caught her breath and stepped back. She put a hand on her chest and smiled. “You scared me!”

The man wore a flak jacket and dark clothing. He was tall – Natalie guessed over 6 feet – thin, wore glasses, black boots, and a baseball cap with the letters GCSD. “Didn’t mean to frighten you, Natalie. Why don’t you step in the office?”

“This is Peacekeeper this Vesario’s office. What are you…?”

The man grabbed her arm. Natalie wanted to scream but in a flash she was pulled inside, the door closed. She gritted her teeth and rubbed her arm. “Who are you? What you want with me?”

The man sat on the edge of the Vesario’s desk and crossed his arms. “I’d like some answers to my questions.”

“What are you talking about? I’ve never met you.”

The man took out an identification card from his shirt pocket. It read “Jim Deckker, Global Community Satellite Division.”

Natalie finally figured it out. Deckker was the man would looked inside the cellblock earlier. How long have been watching her? Did he just suspect she was a Judah-ite or did he have evidence?

“Look, I can explain about going into the jail.”

“Can you? How about the part about being a follower of Tsion Ben-Judah?”

Natalie put a hand in her pocket and felt for her key ring.

“I’ll bet when you hear the phrase ‘He is risen,’ you don’t think about Nicolae at all.” Deckker raised his eyebrows and smiled. “Am I right?”

“You have no proof,” Natalie said. “I’ve been a faithful employee…”

“Until you made a couple of mistakes with those kids. I went back in the files and saw you were at the youth event where the satellite truck was stolen. Care to explain that?”

Natalie slowly twisted the top on the Mace dispenser inside her pocket. The man knew exactly who she was. She had to get out of the Vesario’s office, out of the building, and out of the Morale Monitors forever.

Deckker stood and took a few steps toward the door, turning his back to her. Natalie pulled the Mace dispenser from her pocket and aimed.
