Ever hike some mountain for many days and suddenly discover a rattlesnake right in front of you? That’s how Bilbo and the dwarves feel now, only a zillion times worse. They have arrived at the cave of the Dragon, Shmaug, who has the earned reputation of eating dwarves and ponies. Shmaug has never seen a hobbit, but he’s not picky about what he eats. Now someone has to enter the Dragon lair and spy out the Dragon. I’ll bet you it’s Bilbo they elect.
