Left Behind: Apollyon, Chapters 8 through 12

The highly respected Chaim Rosenzweig has three houseguests, two of them are wanted by the Global Community police – Rabbi Ben Judah and Buck Williams. Buck’s wife, Chloe, is pregnant and with them. In a hilarious scene, Chaim and Buck search for Jacov, a recovering alcoholic who is Chaim’s chauffeur. They go to a very seedy bar called “The Harem” because that’s where Jacov always went when he went back to his drinking. But instead Jacov was there standing on a table and preaching Christ! Afterward Buck drove alone to the Wailing Wall. A huge crowd was there including many of the GC police. When a man with a high-powered rifle begins moving toward the Wall, the witnesses give him grave warning. But as the police also begin to move in, the two witnesses completely disappear. Carpathia (the Antichrist) has announced to the world by television that if the two witnesses left the Wailing Wall, they were to be captured or shot by anyone on site. Ray picks the story up at this point

Meanwhile,Ken Ritz has flown Rayford back to Israel in order for Rayford to help Buck, Chloe, and the Rabbi escape back to the states.

Just after noon on Thursday in Chicago, Rayford and Ken joined Doc Charles and Hattie to watch the Meeting. The pilots had their flight plans out and doodled with charting their course to the Middle East. Assuming word got to Tsion, he would announce something official or ceremonious for Saturday, and that would trigger Rayford and Ken’s attempt to get to Israel. They would plan to arrive around midnight Friday and pick up their passengers shortly thereafter. Rayford’s head jerked up as all four watchers heard Tsion say,

“I plan to summarize all this in a small thank-you session to the local committee on Saturday at noon, when we meet near the Temple Mount.”

“Bingo!” Rayford said. “Teach me the Gulfstream this afternoon, so I can share the load both ways.”

“Long as you’re confident of chopper duty. Got one lined up?”

“That part’ll be easy. Hoo, boy, back in the battle!”

Hattie gave Rayford a long look. “You like this stuff?” “Funny you would ask that,” he said, “knowing how you feel about Carpathia.” “I expect to die going after him. You act like you can’t lose.”

“We’ve already won,” Ritz said. “It’s just a matter of going through the motions. The Bible’s already told the story, and as Tsion says, ‘We win.’”

Hattie shook her head and rolled onto her side, her back to them. “You’re pretty glib for dealing with a man like Nicolae.”

Ken caught Rayford’s eye. “You realize when we have to leave, with the time change and all? Well, ’course you do. You been flyin’ these routes a lot longer’n I have.”

Judd and Lionel don’t know what to think. Samuel, who once gave Judd a video showing the killing of Rabbi Ben Judah’s family, seemingly turned on them in front of his father who is a worker with Global Community. But that was just in front of his father. As soon as the three teenagers were away from his dad, he gave Judd a piece of paper with the address of a safe house where they could hide. That’s where they are now in the home of Jamal. Meanwhile, GC police have accused Buck of murder and he is being hunted along with Rabbi Ben Judah.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, Melinda ran off from the Young Tribulation Force and has just been arrested by the GC police. Ray picks the story up at this point.

MARK parked his cycle and walked past a few stores. He wondered if Melinda had told the peacekeepers about the Young Trib Force and their hideout. He studied shop windows as he listened to the squawking radios.

“Still waiting for the fingerprint ID,” one officer said.

“She sure looks like the photo,” another said. “Wonder how she wound up here?”

Mark walked into a small grocery store and watched the GC officers through the window. He bought a pack of gum and asked the girl at the cash register what happened.

“She ran in here out of breath,” the girl said. “Real dirty. Looked like she’d spent the night in the woods. I figured it was one of those women who escaped from the GC prison I’ve been hearing about on the news.”

“There was a breakout?” Mark said.

“Yeah. One of those reeducation camps or whatever you call them. When that girl saw the squad car go by, she freaked. Hid behind one of the aisles back there. I went outside and flagged ’em down.”

“You’re pretty much a hero,” Mark said.

The girl blushed. “I didn’t do nothin’. Just figured she had to be guilty of something, the way she acted.”

Mark thanked the girl and left. A small bell rang as he opened the door, and the Peacekeepers glanced at him. Mark walked the other way.

The radio squawked. “Here’s the report,” a man said. “We have a negative on the downstate facility. Your girl is MM-1215, Melinda Bentley.” The man read off more information about Melinda. “You’re instructed to interrogate, then carry out GC order X-13.”

The peacekeepers looked at each other. “Can you repeat that?”

“Interrogate and carry out an X-13. Over.”

The peacekeeper sighed. “Ten four, we copy. Out.”

Mark didn’t know what an X-13 was, but it didn’t sound good for Melinda. He turned the corner and walked his motorcycle closer. He wanted to hear the GC question Melinda.

“We know who you are,” a peacekeeper said. “Who’s been hiding you?”

“I was staying with some friends,” Melinda said.

“Who?”

Left Behind: Apollyon Chapter 7

Buck peeked in on Chloe before heading out with Chaim. She appeared sound asleep. “Do you mind driving?” Chaim asked. “It has been so long since I was allowed.”

“Allowed?” Chaim smiled wearily. “Once you become, how shall I say it, a personality in this country, especially in this city, you are treated like royalty. I cannot go anywhere unescorted. I was not even famous when first you did the cover story on me.”

“You were revered, however.” Chaim checked with his gateman, Jonas, for the latest word on Jacov. “Stefan?” Buck heard him say. Then something urgent and frustrated in Hebrew. Chaim directed Buck to the last stall in the garage, and Buck slid behind the wheel of an ancient sedan. “I don’t want everyone to know I am coming. The Mercedes is well known. You drive a stick shift, do you not?”

Buck feathered the throttle and quickly caught on to the vagaries of the manual transmission. He worried more about the bald state of the tires. “Any idea where we’re going?”

“Yes, I am afraid I do,” Chaim said. “Jacov is an alcoholic.”

Buck shot him a double take. “You have an alcoholic as your driver?” “He’s dry. Recovering they call it. But in times of crisis, he reverts.”

“Falls off the wagon?”

“I do not know that expression.” “It’s an old Americanism. Early in the twentieth century the Women’s Christian Temperance Union would roll the Temperance Wagon into town, decrying the evils of alcohol and calling on offenders to give it up and get on the wagon. When a sober man went back to drinking, it was called falling off the wagon.”

“Well, I’m afraid that is what has happened here,” Chaim said, pointing where Buck was to turn. As they moved into smaller neighborhoods with houses and buildings closer together, Buck began noticing things he hadn’t seen on the drive from Chaim’s to the stadium. Jerusalem had grown seedy. How he had loved to visit this city just a few years before! It had had its rundown areas, but overall it had been kept with pride. Since the disappearances, certain types of crime and lewd activity had sprung up that he never expected to see in public here. Drunks staggered along, some with their arms slung around ladies of the evening. As Buck drove farther into the city he saw strip clubs, tattoo parlors, fortune-telling shops, and triple-X-rated establishments. “What has happened to your city?”

How To Forgive Ourselves Totally Chapter 4 Guilt, Grief, Regret, And Repentance

How To Forgive Ourselves Totally Chapter 4 Guilt, Grief, Regret, And Repentance

When Martha and Mary sent word to Jesus that His friend Lazarus was ill, they assumed that Jesus would stop what He was doing, come immediately to Bethany, and heal Lazarus. But he showed up four days after the funeral instead.

Mary and Martha were bewildered – and angry. When Jesus finally came to Bethany, they blame Him for their brother’s death, pointing their fingers at one of the time, saying, “If you had been here my brother would not have died” John 11:21, 32). Jesus had no pseudo-guilt for arriving when he did for arriving when He did. After all, His priority was the Father (John 5:19). Jesus listened and did not moralize them. He knew they were in grief. He wept with them (John 11:35).

When we are in grief it is good to cry. If Jesus could cry, so can you and I. Some people, especially men, are afraid or ashamed to cry. But it is good to do this; there is often healing in tears. God does not want us to feel guilty; this is why He provided a way to deal with any guilt of any kind. In any case, when we are in grief we don’t need to pretend we are not hurting. God completely understands. Furthermore, this is not necessarily a time for a “stiff upper lip”; it is rather a time to be broken and said – – truly a time to weep and mourn ( Ecclesiastes 3:4).

Could it be that you are in grief at this moment? Is it possible that this grief is mixed with a little guilt?

Mark 11 Audio Bible

As they approached Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, He *sent two of His disciples, and *said to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ you say, ‘The Lord has need of it’; and immediately he[a]will send it back here.” They went away and found a colt tied at the door, outside in the street; and they *untied it. Some of the bystanders were saying to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?”They spoke to them just as Jesus had told them, and they gave them permission. They *brought the colt to Jesus and put their coats on it; and He sat on it. And many spread their coats in the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields. Those who went in front and those who followed were shouting:

“Hosanna!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;
10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David;
Hosanna in the highest!”

11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and came into the temple; and after looking around at everything, He left for Bethany with the twelve, since it was already late.

12 On the next day, when they had left Bethany, He became hungry. 13 Seeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And His disciples were listening.

15 Then they *came to Jerusalem. And He entered the temple and began to drive out those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling [b]doves; 16 and He would not permit anyone to carry [c]merchandise through the temple. 17 And He began to teach and say to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a robbers[d]den.” 18 The chief priests and the scribes heard this, and began seeking how to destroy Him; for they were afraid of Him, for the whole crowd was astonished at His teaching.

19 When evening came, [e]they would go out of the city.

20 As they were passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up. 21 Being reminded, Peter *said to Him, “Rabbi, look, the fig tree which You cursed has withered.” 22 And Jesus *answered saying to them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. 24 Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you. 25 Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions. 26 [[f]But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions.”]

27 They came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to Him, 28 and began saying to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things, or who gave You this authority to do these things?” 29 And Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question, and you answer Me, and then I will tell you by what authority I do these things.30 Was the baptism of John from heaven, or from men? Answer Me.” 31 They began reasoning among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ 32 But[g]shall we say, ‘From men’?”—they were afraid of the people, for everyone considered John to have been a real prophet. 33 Answering Jesus, they *said, “We do not know.” And Jesus *said to them, “Nor[h]will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

Mark 10 Audio Bible

Getting up, He *went from there to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan; crowds *gathered around Him again, and, according to His custom, He once more began to teach them.

Some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing Him, and began to question Him whether it was lawful for a man to [a]divorce a wife. And He answered and said to them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and [b]send her away.” But Jesus said to them, [c]Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother[d], and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”

10 In the house the disciples began questioning Him about this again. 11 And He *said to them,“Whoever [e]divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; 12 and if she herself [f]divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery.”

13 And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them.14 But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, “Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.” 16 And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them.

17 As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments, ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” 20 And he said to Him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.” 21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But at these words [g]he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.

23 And Jesus, looking around, *said to His disciples, “How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 The disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus *answered again and *said to them, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 They were even more astonished and said to Him, “[h]Then who can be saved?” 27 Looking at them, Jesus *said, “With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”

28 Peter began to say to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed You.” 29 Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, 30 [i]but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in [j]the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last, first.”

32 They were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful. And again He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him, 33 saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be [k]delivered to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and will [l]hand Him over to the Gentiles. 34 They will mock Him and spit on Him, and scourge Him and kill Him, and three days later He will rise again.”

35 [m]James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, *came up to Jesus, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask of You.” 36 And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?”37 They said to Him, “[n]Grant that we may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your glory.”38 But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” 39 They said to Him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized. 40 But to sit on My right or on My left, this is not Mine to give; but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.”

41 Hearing this, the ten began to feel indignant with [o]James and John. 42 Calling them to Himself, Jesus *said to them, “You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great men exercise authority over them. 43 But it is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; 44 and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His[p]life a ransom for many.”

46 Then they *came to Jericho. And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”48 Many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him here.” So they *called the blind man, saying to him, “Take courage, stand up! He is calling for you.” 50 Throwing aside his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus. 51 And answering him, Jesus said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” And the blind man said to Him, “[q]Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has[r]made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.

LB-TK Darkening Skies Chapters 1&2 Under The Stage, Samuel’s Deception

JUDD gently lowered the guard’s head to the ground, knowing the man had died trying to protect Buck Williams and the others in the Tribulation Force. Footsteps continued to pound on the stage above them. Lionel grabbed the guard’s walkie-talkie. “Come on. We have to get out of here!” Judd and Lionel rolled under the stage and held their breath. The radio squawked in Lionel’s hand. He turned it down.

Two guards jumped from the stage and felt for a pulse on the downed guard. One barked into his radio, “He’s dead, sir.” A voice shot back, “Find the rabbi and those others. I want them dead before they get out of the stadium!”

Judd whispered to Lionel, “We’ve got to stop them!” But before Judd could move, another voice blared on the guard’s radio. “We’ve spotted them in a Mercedes a few blocks from the stadium, sir.” “Probably headed to the Rosenzweig estate,” another voice said. “After them!”

Judd sighed. “Nothing we can do now.”

The stadium was nearly empty. A few stragglers knelt near the stage, praying. Medical personnel attended to the injured. Judd and Lionel watched from the shadows as GC peacekeepers dragged the dead guard away. A cameraman flipped on a light, and a reporter stepped in front of it. “We are live at Teddy Kollek Stadium,” the reporter said. “Just moments ago, this Global Community peacekeeper was murdered at the conference called the Meeting of the Witnesses. Those in the audience listened to a message of love and peace, but it seems someone did not follow their leader’s teaching.”

“No way one of the witnesses shot that guard,” Lionel said.

Judd gritted his teeth. “Carpathia will make Tsion look—”

“What?” Lionel said.

Judd spied a heavyset boy near the front row. “I know that kid,” he said.

When the Global Community guards were gone, Judd and Lionel crept from under the stage and approached the boy. The boy’s mouth dropped open. “Judd,” the boy said, “what are you doing here?”

“How do I know you?” Judd said.

Left Behind: Apollyon Chapters 5 and 6

Nicolae Carpathia had made a fool of himself on worldwide television and that the Teddy Kollek Stadium in Jerusalem. After he began to speak to a crowd of many thousands at the stadium, his voice began to give out on him. Someone from the crowd handed him a bottle of water, but when he drank it blood came out and he choked on it. Swearing and screaming at Christian Rabbi Tsion Ben Judah, who was the reason all the people had come, he gasped and left the stage. But not for long. He soon returned with murder in his eyes. Meanwhile, Hattie’s ( and the Antichrist’s baby died at birth and Hattie no longer wants to live. Rayford, Dr. Charles, and Ken Ritz are with her and encouraging her to live. Ray picks the story up at this point. Join him now.

Buck grew nervous in the van, waiting for Chloe and Tsion. He assumed she would hustle Tsion from the stage; thousands would have given anything for a moment with him, not to mention committee members who might want a word. And no one knew how Carpathia might respond to what had happened on stage. He initially blamed it on Tsion, but then the witnesses had appeared. Buck thought Nicolae should realize that Tsion had no miraculous powers. Nicolae’s quarrel was with the two witnesses. It was his own fault, of course. He had not been invited, or even welcomed, on stage. And the gall to have Fortunato and the pompous Peter the Second precede him! Buck shook his head. What else from the Antichrist?

Buck dialed Chloe’s number but got no answer. A busy signal he could understand. But no answer? A recorded voice spoke in Hebrew. “Jacov, listen to this. What is she saying?” Jacov was still beaming, having craned his neck and leaned out the window to see others’ marks. He often pointed to his own and learned that fellow believers always smiled and seemed to enjoy pointing heavenward. The day would come, Buck knew, when the sign of the cross on the forehead would have to say everything between tribulation saints. Even pointing up would draw the attention of enemy forces. The problem was, the day would also come when the other side would have its own mark, and it would be visible to all. In fact, according to the Bible, those who did not bear this “mark of the beast” would not be able to buy or sell. The great network of saints would then have to develop its own underground market to stay alive.

Jacov put the phone to his ear, then handed it back to Buck. “If you want to leave a message, press one.” Buck did. “Chloe,” he said, “call me as soon as you get this. The crowd out here hasn’t thinned a bit, so I don’t want to have to come and find you and Tsion. But I will if I don’t hear from you in ten minutes.” As soon as he ended the call, his phone chirped. “Thank God,” he said and flipped it open. “Yeah, babe.”

The final 3 chapters of Terror In The Stadium

Ray begins reading the final three chapters of the 17th book in the 40 book series of Left Behind-The Kids: Nicolae’s Speech, Reason to Kill, and Death in the Stadium. Those titles alone should show you this will be a very  tense three chapters. Taylor Graham who flew Judd, Lionel, and Mr. Stein, to Israel, has moved out of the stands at the packed Teddy Kolleck Stadium with one goal on his mind. Judd has realized what that goal is and has left Lionel and Mr. Stein in the stands to stop him.

Meanwhile, Z has brought notebooks and pens to Vicki and those in the schoolhouse. They are seated watching events at the stadium over a television set, waiting for Tsion Ben Judah to speak to the crowd including many of the 144,000 Jewish evangelists. Mark has left the group and is now on his own with the Lord. Ray picks the story up at this point.

As Nicolae Carpathia stepped to the podium Judd slipped from his seat. “If I’m not back before this ends, stay here,” Judd said to Lionel. Taylor Graham was still moving when Judd caught up to him.

“What are you doing?” Judd whispered.

Taylor whirled, ready to fight. When he recognized Judd, he rolled his eyes and put a finger to his lips. “I came to hear Carpathia.”

“Fellow citizens of the Global Community,” as your potentate, I welcome you to Israel and to this great arena, named after a man of the past, a man of peace and harmony statesmanship.”

Judd knew what Nicolae was doing. He was trying to win the crown by talking about a well-known Israeli.

Mark 9 Audio Bible

And Jesus was saying to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”

Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified.

Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!” All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.

As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead. They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant.

They asked Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

“But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.”

When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them.

Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed and began running up to greet Him.

And He asked them, “What are you discussing with them?”

And one of the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute;

and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and stiffens out. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it.”

And He answered them and said, “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!”

They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth.

And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.

“It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”

And Jesus said to him, ” ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”

Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”

When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again.”

After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, “He is dead!”

But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.

When He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, “Why could we not drive it out?”

And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.”

From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it.

For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”

But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.

They came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?”

But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.

Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”

Mark 8 Audio Bible

In those days, when there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples and said to them,

“I feel compassion for the people because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat.

“If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a great distance.”

And His disciples answered Him, “Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?”

And He was asking them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.”

And He directed the people to sit down on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks and broke them, and started giving them to His disciples to serve to them, and they served them to the people.

They also had a few small fish; and after He had blessed them, He ordered these to be served as well.

And they ate and were satisfied; and they picked up seven large baskets full of what was left over of the broken pieces.

About four thousand were there; and He sent them away.

And immediately He entered the boat with His disciples and came to the district of Dalmanutha.

The Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him.

Sighing deeply in His spirit, He said, “Why does this generation seek for a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

Leaving them, He again embarked and went away to the other side.

And they had forgotten to take bread, and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them.

And He was giving orders to them, saying, “Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

They began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread.

And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you discuss the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have a hardened heart?

“HAVING EYES, DO YOU NOT SEE? AND HAVING EARS, DO YOU NOT HEAR? And do you not remember,

when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces you picked up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.”

“When I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?” And they said to Him, “Seven.”

And He was saying to them, “Do you not yet understand?”

And they came to Bethsaida. And they brought a blind man to Jesus and implored Him to touch him.

Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?”

And he looked up and said, “I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around.”

Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly.

And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.”

Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who do people say that I am?”

They told Him, saying, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.”

And He continued by questioning them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”

And He warned them to tell no one about Him.

And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.

But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”

And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.

“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.

“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?

“For what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

Love Does by Bob Goff Chapter 5 The Rearview Mirror

I used to think I could shape the circumstances around me, but now I know Jesus uses circumstances to shape me. A fter high school, I went to Humboldt State University because I wanted to be a forest ranger. Actually, I took one of those aptitude tests in high school and slanted all of the answers so the school would report to my parents that if ever anyone was born to be a forest ranger, it was me. What I anticipated most about being a forest ranger is that you live in the woods, you get a green truck, you get a badge, and, to top it all off, you get a hat with a wide brim.

After reading the test results I had rigged, my parents had to agree that I was meant to be a forest ranger, and my mom took me to the mountains where the forest rangers live. Where are the girls? I thought. This was the first indication that my research had perhaps been flawed. Forest rangers didn’t live in the woods the way I had envisioned either. They lived in green concrete dormitories with cots lined up in rows under fluorescent lights. Their greatest adventure, it seemed, was giving tickets to people parked in the wrong places. They played cards a lot and ate TV dinners. I had envisioned something a bit woodsier and manly, I suppose. Guns, moose heads, snowshoes leaning up against a large stone fireplace, a pile of beef jerky on the table . . . something along those lines. What I learned is that most forestry majors at the university go to work for forest products companies like Georgia Pacific or Weyerhaeuser and manage the cutting down of the forests to make paper or wrappers or those sorts of things. I was discouraged, but it was too late to change schools, so I went to Humboldt as a forestry major.

Today With Ray  8/24/2015  Is Wall Street about to lay another egg???

The Dow plunged 1,000 points on open but Apple’s stock is green.

Shares of Apple recovered in Monday afternoon trading after slumping badly along with the broader market as investors fretted about a weak economy in China.

The stock, which was at one point the worst performer of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, is now the best performer. It is up around 2%, even as the broader index is down more than 180 points. Two other tech firms – Microsoft and Intel – were the only other stocks trading in positive territory among the 30 shares that make up the DJIA.

Apple has depended on China for growth in recent years, so it made sense the shares would be hit by concerns that a weak economy there could result in fewer gadget sales. But the upward move could be because some investors sensed a buying opportunity. Apple’s shares are trading at around $108 apiece currently, the lowest level since January. The stock has lost around 20% of its value in the past month.

The recovery could also be attributed to a rare move by CEO Tim Cook to reassure investors. Cook sent an e-mail to CNBC’s Jim Cramer, telling the host that Apple’s growth remained “strong” through July and August with growth of iPhone activations accelerating in recent weeks.
