Larry Burkett (March 3, 1939 – July 4, 2003) was an American author and radio personality whose work focused on financial counseling from an evangelical Christian point of view. After completing high school in Winter Garden, Florida, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he served in the Strategic Air Command.

Upon completion of his military duties, Burkett and his wife Judy returned to central Florida, where he worked in the space program at Cape Canaveral. He spent the next several years at the Space Center in charge of an experiments test facility that served the Mercury-, Gemini-, and Apollo-manned space programs. While working at the space center, Burkett earned degrees in marketing and finance at Rollins College.

Burkett left the Space Center in 1970 to become Vice President of an electronics manufacturing firm. In 1972, he became an evangelical Christian; an event that had a profound effect on his life. In 1973, he left the electronics company to join the staff of a nonprofit ministry, Campus Crusade for Christ, as a financial counselor where he met Austin Pryor, Ron Blue and other notable financial experts. It was during this time that he began an intense study of what the Bible says about handling money, and he started teaching small groups around the country.

Burkett left the campus ministry in 1976 to form Christian Financial Concepts (CFC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching the biblical principles of handling money. In September 2000, CFC merged with Crown Ministries, creating a new organization, Crown Financial Ministries. Burkett served as Chairman of the Board of Directors until his death.

Burkett published more than 70 books, sales of which now exceed 11 million copies and include several national best-sellers. He did three daily radio programs “Money Matters,” “How to Manage Your Money,” and “MoneyWatch,” along with a series of short features titled “A Money Minute,” which were carried on more than 1,100 radio outlets worldwide. (Crown Financial Ministries has since replaced the three longer-form radio broadcasts with shows having different titles and reworked formats.) In May 1996, Southwest Baptist University conferred on Burkett an honorary doctorate in economics. His last book was Nothing to Fear, in which he gave an update on his experiences with cancer and cancer treatments. Larry died on the fourth of July, 2003. His book “The Illumaniti” was published in 1991.

JUST WHAT IS APPRECIATION

JUST WHAT IS APPRECIATION

In the mid 1990’s I was asked to be the keynote speaker at a student

convention promoting understanding and tolerance.  I told them I would love

to speak on understanding, but not on tolerance. When it comes to tolerance,

I’m against it.  Have you ever been “tolerated”.  Some of the definitions of

tolerance are ‘to put up with’, ‘to endure’, ‘the capacity to endure

hardship or pain’.  To me, it is degrading to ‘tolerate’ someone.  I would

rather be ‘appreciated’.

When I appreciate you, I have declared that I enjoy you, I value you, I am

grateful to you, or I might even need you.

I appreciate that Charles Dew, an American of African Heritage, gave us

Blood Plasma.  I appreciate the combat records of the Tuskegee Airmen and

Nissei battalions.  I appreciate Americans of African and Japanese heritage

who made major contributions to save the world from the tyranny of Nazism

and Imperialism.

I appreciate all the work Paul Rodriquez, a comedian and American of Mexican

heritage, has done to help the rehabilitation program in prisons.

Later in this book, I point out that we Americans are the first people born

of a spirit, not a blood.  And the key to that spirit lies in a simple

quality called Appreciation.

An appreciative life is one that energizes itself every time it views a new

wonder.  From the simplicity of a child’s laugh to the amazement of a great

new discovery in outer space.  This is a life that constantly revitalizes

itself with Amazement.

I actually get a kick out of standing in lines.  Lines in a grocery store,

or a ticket window or even at the DMV show how far humanity has come.  I

have no doubt that everyone in every line has some place to go and something

to do.  Yet they stand.  All waiting their turn.

Centuries ago, the big laborer might have pushed everyone aside, the rich

old lady might have bought her way to the front, the famous person might

have thrown a tantrum.

Yet today, you see them all standing in line…waiting their turn.  This point

of view leads me to find the miracle in every minute.  I can spend an entire

day in a grocery watching the greatest show on earth in total amazement.

The child trying to point out to the mother the health advantage to be found

in a Hershey Bar, the boyfriend who is learning how to take shopping orders

from his girlfriend, the ‘shopper’ looking for the best value everywhere,

the ‘sampler’ trying to get a free taste of everything before buying, the

accidental meeting between two people who are talking in wider circles

trying to set up a future meeting.  All of these and more I find

tremendously entertaining and my entertainment is build upon that simple

human emotion…

APPRECIATION

I also appreciate dictionaries.  They reveal some truths we haven’t yet

realized.  So let’s look at the four definitions of appreciation given in

various dictionaries.

To be grateful for

To be totally aware of.  Cognizant

To recognize quality, importance, or magnitude

(this is my favorite) TO INCREASE IN VALUE

It took me a few years to realize that the more I appreciated my students,

the more they increased in value to the class, to their families, and to

themselves.

Like all new teachers, when I began my career, I desired to make a good

impression.  As the years passed and my students became adults, I came to

realize that my real job was to be impressed by them.

The longer I taught, the more I taught with my eyes and my ears.

It is my wish and my prayer that this book will lead you to new awareness

and gratitude for life that will increase all you know, all you have, and

all you are in value.  I know for sure that through more appreciation, we

can create more civility in our nation.

10 - THE RIOTS

WHAT IS A “WEAK” CHRISTIAN?

WHAT IS A “WEAK” CHRISTIAN?

by Ray Mossholder

Weak Christians are bringing Christianity under full attack in America or in any other nation in which they live.

What is a “weak” Christian? A weak Christian is someone who remembers a moment in their life when they were “saved” but usually can’t tell you how their life has become greater since Christ came into it. The way they talk and the things they do makes those who don’t know Christ believe Christians are hypocrites. They are often a huge stumblingblock to the lost, new Christians, and those who are also weak.

A weak Christian may talk about prayer, but seldom prays. If they are baptized in the Holy Spirit and received their prayer language, they rarely or never pray in tongues. At most, their prayer life consists of a kind of shopping list that they run through daily, seeing little or no results from it.

A weak Christian would insist that the Bible is the Word of God, but their Bible stays on the shelf gathering dust because they don’t read it or study it, or do what they learn from it. On the other hand, a weak Christian may read their Bible, but they use what they believe they learn there to make everyone else’s life miserable by judging them, preaching at them and condemning them.

A weak Christian might go on a missionary trip for the fun and excitement of it, telling some of their friends they are going. But they have never gone next door or down their own block to lead their neighbors to Christ. Sharing Jesus is not part of their portfolio.

A weak Christian may or may not go to church. If they do, their favorite part of it is singing in the choir, teaching a Sunday School class, or going out to lunch afterwards with some of their church friends. They honestly can’t remember anything new learned from the pastors message once they leave the building.

A weak Christian’s conversation is controlled by habit, not by the Lord. They shoot from the hip, thinking that whatever they say is what they should say, whether or not it is healing, helpful, or Heavenly. They murmur and gossip, thinking they have every right to do so. Christ is not in control of their life. They find fault with others as if they were dogs after fleas.

Multitudes of weak Christians live locked in self-hatred and bitterness. Their light isn’t hidden under a bushel, but totally snuffed out because they avoid nearly every other human as they’d avoid a plague. Any people they do get around are people they believe they can control or people who control them.

Both the weak Christian who is loud-mouthed and the weak Christian who avoids people find the love of God seemingly missing in their lives. That’s because God’s love is continually sensed only by those Christians who are quick forgivers. They know that true forgiveness requires honestly and lovingly turning every offender over to God for Him to deal with.

A weak Christian lays up their treasures on Earth. They never start with the foundation that all of their money and possessions belong to God and that they are simply His stewards. In their mind all of their money is their own to spend however they wish. They believe God doesn’t really provide for them anyway, but God helps those who help themselves.

In a crisis, a weak Christian might yell out for God, but fear dominates them and unless Christ brings them instant release they will look to anyone else except Christ to solve their problem. If no one can help them they will blame God for bringing the problem to them. They don’t spend time with God in prayer and listen to Him when He tells them what to do. Most weak Christians don’t believe God would talk with them anyway. And they don’t rebuke the devil because they don’t believe in him and the demonic world.

A weak Christian lives as though Christ was billions of miles away from them and generally unavailable through prayer. They believe that if they pray they will almost always get Christ’s Voicemail. They mentally relegate Him to the First Century and to an unreachable Heaven. They reject the supernatural works of Christ for today, usually because their weak pastor has taught them to do that. They believe that healing and all the other gifts of the Spirit were only for the people of the First Century. They don’t believe Christ is “the same today” (Hebrews 10:38) than He was when He was on Earth. They believe in the miracles of the New Testament like the Pharisees believed the miracles of the Old Testament, but not that Jesus Christ could do any miracles for them today.

Is such a person really saved and will they go to Heaven? Yes, if they at some specific point in their life have sincerely asked Christ to come into their life and be their Savior (Romans 10:8-9.) In fact, the New Testament says never to judge weak Christians but do what you and other Christians can do to help strengthen them. Still the tragedy of being a weak Christian is that it is absolutely certain they are missing out on a large part of the “abundant life” (John 10:10) here on Earth that Christ came, lived, died and rose to bring them.

What can a Christian do once they recognize they are weak?:

“Therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace so that you can find mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16.)

Hang out with Christ who hung for you.

COMING CLEAN: 2 KINGS 5

COMING CLEAN: 2 KINGS 5 by Ray Mossholder

Now Naaman was a general, though he had leprosy,
An awful drag on his joy level, as his whole army could see.
Naaman had won a strategic battle, bringing victory to his king,
Aram was the king’s name, and you should have heard him sing.
The song he sang was about Naaman, for him he’d do anything.
To show his thankfulness for the victory; “A wife! A stallion! A ring!”
But a cute little maid to the king’s wife, asked “How about Naaman’s skin?
I don’t think anything will make him happy, no matter how many battles he’ll win,
Til that leprosy’s gone, he’s untouchable, and ugly as a toad,
He itches, he scratches, he’s miserable, while just a little ways down this road
Is a man of God named Elisha, who can heal the worst of sores,
And it’s not really Naaman but God who is winning all our wars.”

The king wrote a letter to Israel’s king as quickly as a flash,
“Enclosed please find a million bucks, that’s just a bit of cash.
Still, I’m asking a wee little favor if you’d just take the time
To heal General Naaman because he looks like slime.
Turn him into a George Clooney, or maybe a Tom Cruise,
What I mean is, please erase this leper’s skin abuse.”

The king of Israel threw a tizzy fit when he got that letter from Aram,
“Is this a joke? Has he gone insane to think I could heal this man?”
He ripped his robe to pieces thinking Aram was planning war.
But Elisha was only six miles away and heard the Royalty’s roar,
“What’s wrong with the King of Israel?” he asked, “Got his knickers in a twist?”
“Oh, no,” said someone standing by, “But if I should make a list
Of impossible things to do or see, healing leprosy would be on the top,
And Aram wants our king to make Naaman’s leprosy stop.”
“So what’s the big deal?” Elisha said, “God could do that for him right now.
“Here’s a note for our king, take it to him, and don’t forget to bow.”
The king was elated with Elisha’s words and a bit embarrassed, too,
For the huge fit that he had thrown when all he had to do
Was send Naaman to Elisha and his zits would go away
Or his leprosy, or whatever it was, that made his face decay.

“Huzzah! Hooray! General Naaman is here and asks Elisha to come
Lay hands on him and heal him. Hurry up you bum!
General Naaman can’t wait all day for such as the likes of you,
Elisha’s your name? Well get a move on! Naaman’s got so much to do.”
“I’m busy today,” answered Elisha, “putting bee-bees in a jar,
And I can’t go outside and take the time, it really is too far.
But I’m sending my servant to talk to Naaman, telling him how to get well,
Now please remove yourself from my premises before I start to yell.”

The servant went outside and said, “I have the cure for your disease.
Just baptize yourself seven times in the River Jordan, please.
You’ll find your skin all smooth and nice, touchable again,
In fact, though the water may be dirty, God will cleanse you. Amen!”
“Are you off your gourd?,” the General yelled, “Needing a straightjacket, knave?
I’m famous for winning battles, I’ll turn you into my slave!
Don’t you know who I am?,” he roared, “And how I conquer land?
Go back and get Elisha. At least bring me his hand!”

Naaman’s servants felt very badly for how their master swore
One whispered to the servant, “He really is a bore.”
But another spoke to his master and in a winning tone
Said, “Great Sir, with all due respect, no one would be your clone
If they could keep from being you with all your leprosy.
Why not do what Elisha’s servant says and get yourself set free?
You’d slay ten armies before breakfast or fight dragons in their den,
So why not do what Elisha says and be whole and well again?”
Naaman realized this reasoning was sound and straight and true,
“Yes, off I’ll go to the Jordan. That’s exactly what I’ll do.”

When he got to the river he removed his clothes in a tent by the side of the stream
And put on a purple swimming suit and flippers, oh, so keen.
Up and down seven times in the water he did what he’d been told
Though he shivered and shook like Elvis because the water was so cold.
And would you believe the seventh time was unlike all the rest?
Because of his obedience he now had a handsome chest.
It was as if that leper had washed away every bit of his disgrace
And his servants said, “Oh, my gosh! He’s got a handsome face!”
God smiled from Heaven upon this man who had been so very vain
“Welcome to abundant life,” He said, “You’re completely whole again.”

NAAMAN“I am so sorry I was rude,” Naaman told his men,
“And I was stupidly vain. Vanity is a terrible sin.
Let’s go back to Elisha’s tent, I can’t remember when
I’ve felt so young, so strong, so pure; not since I was ten.
That’s when the leprosy began and I’ve hated the rest of my years.
I lived in dread of being seen, and hid in all my fears.
I killed men gladly in battle, as wicked as that may sound,
Because I thought no cure for me ever could be found.
I had looked everywhere to find one, looking hither and thither and yon,
But I’d never found Elisha’s God, wherever I had gone.
Til now. Let’s go and thank that man, and give him a great prize.
But in trying to give Elisha a gift Naaman got another surprise.
“I won’t take your money or gifts that you bring,” Elisha told him true,
“Because it was God not me who heals, and this same God loves you.”
Stunned by these words Naaman cried, “I’ve never known such love.
I wish with all my heart I could serve your God above.
Please give me a donkey-load full of dirt from your most precious earth,
This is holy ground I recognize, and I know what it is worth.
I’ll put it in various places that I frequent day to day
And place my knees upon it so that at very least I can pray
To the God who heals, the God who loves, the God so full of power
That I wish with all my heart and might I could know Him in this hour.
“You can, my friend,” Elisha smiled, “Let’s pray together to Him,”
They did and then Naaman gasped, “I’m still out on a limb.
My master worships Rimmon and I go with him to the shrine.
He commands it, I obey him, Rimmon isn’t worth a dime.
I know that now, I realize how much I’ve needed the Lord
Will you pray for me that God won’t be mad and kill me with His sword?”
“Do not fear the wrath of God who has healed you today.
He fully understands you and with will forever stay.
Go in peace, dear General. God loves you, it is simple.
And don’t fear again in the slightest that you’ll even get a pimple.”

Now Elisha’s servant had been watching all this with great dismay,
“My master isn’t smart enough to get greatly blessed this day.”
So, he saddled up his favorite horse, the one he always rode,
And galloped off to the General, his horse was never “Whoa’d.”
Naaman saw him coming in a whirlwind of dust
Recognizing Elisha’s man, one he believed he could trust.
“What’s up?” Naaman asked. “Does God have another word?”
“No,” Gehazai answered, “and Elisha feels absurd
To now ask you to do something he hadn’t asked before,
But he didn’t win on “The Price Is Right” and now needs something more.
A couple of his brothers have arrived who he didn’t expect to come
And Elisha’s fresh out of money and feeling kind of dumb.
It’s for them I’m taking an offering that will meet their deepest needs,
Though I’m embarrassed to ask you, my heart it really bleeds,
Do you think you could spare a couple of bucks? Elisha gets paid next week.
He doesn’t want a loan; but an outright gift. It’s not a lot we seek.
Two hundred thousand would do it and get him out of a bind,
Elisha knows you’ll give it because you are really kind.
A bit surprised by this change of plans, the General reached into his kitty
And pulled out fist fulls of money, and clothing really pretty.
“Take these to God’s man and thank him for me, and take two of my servants with you,
To protect all I’m sending him, they’ll stick with you like glue.”

Gehazai sneered at Naaman, “I’ll pray for you tomorrow,”
Returning with his loot with no suspicion of the sorrow
That was about to come upon him because of his great sin.
Elisha was waiting to greet him, “Come tell me where you’ve been.”
“I just went for a ride on Trigger,” Gehazai lied so bold,
“It was a beautiful day and I wanted to enjoy it before it gets too cold.”
“You weren’t on a joyride, Gehazai,” Elisha put him on the spot,
“I went with you in spirit and red-handed you’ve been caught.
I saw you rob the General by lying to his face
And now I’m going to give you something far more painful than mace!”
With that, Elisha waved his hand and Gehazai cried in pain,
“You’ll forever be a leper. Your family will curse your name.
For all of them, as well as you, will never be set free
From leprosy like Naaman had, because of the mockery
You made of God, and for all of us who because of His great ways
Are blessed to be His believers and glad for all our days.
Year after year you’ll scream in pain and wish as long as you live
That a Savior would come from Heaven and love you enough to forgive
And heal you and all your kin from sickness and disease,
Infirmities, yes leprosy, and whatever else you please.
Though your sins be as scarlet, He’d wash them white as snow.
But until such a day be cursed and lost, I’m going to watch you go.
You’ve made me sad, my former friend, that this has happened to you,
But each man pays for his own sins. There’s nothing else to do.
Until sin can be washed away, like Naaman’s leprosy,
People like you will wander this land and never will be free.

On that very day in Heaven God told His only begotten Son,
It’s for people like Gehazi You’ll go to Earth, the One,
To live a perfect but misunderstood life and finally die on a cross,
Conquering sickness, death, and Satan; causing him full loss.
You will return to My right side, salvation for the world our goal,
Still there will always be Gehazi’s whose lives leave one big hole.
They run away, choosing to sin and not believing Me,
But many millions of souls will be saved. We will set them free.”

The moral of this true story we each one need to learn
We’ve all been like Gehazi, in sin we’ve taken our turn.
But Christ has fully come now and hung upon a tree,
If until now you’ve been like Gehazi, let Jesus set you free.

Meet the Author (Edited from Wikipedia)

TESTIMONY OF HEALING

Who was T h o m a s J e f f e r s o n ?

This is amazing.

There are two parts. Be sure to read the 2nd part (in RED).

Thomas Jefferson was a very remarkable man who started learning very early in life and never stopped.

At 5, he began studying under his cousin’s tutor.

At 9, he studied Latin, Greek and French.

At 14, he studied classical literature and additional languages.

At 16, he entered the College of William and Mary.

At 19, he studied Law for 5 years starting under George Wythe.

At 23, he started his own law practice.

At 25, he was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses.

At 31, he wrote the widely circulated “Summary View of the Rights of British America” and retired from his law practice.

At 32, he was a Delegate to the Second Continental Congress.

At 33, he wrote the Declaration of Independence.

At 33, he took three years to revise Virginia’s legal code and wrote a Public Education bill and a statute for Religious Freedom.

At 36, he was elected the second Governor of Virginia succeeding Patrick Henry.

At 40, he served in Congress for two years.

At 41, he was the American minister to France and negotiated commercial treaties with European nations along with Ben Franklin and John Adams.

At 46, he served as the first Secretary of State under George Washington.

At 53, he served as Vice President and was elected president of the American Philosophical Society.

At 55, he drafted the Kentucky Resolutions and became the active head of Republican Party.

At 57, he was elected the third president of the United States.

At 60, he obtained the Louisiana Purchase doubling the nation’s size.

At 61, he was elected to a second term as President.

At 65, he retired to Monticello.

At 80, he helped President Monroe shape the Monroe Doctrine.

At 81, he almost single-handedly created the University of Virginia and served as its first president.

At 83, he died on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence along with John Adams.

Thomas Jefferson knew so much because he had long studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, His laws and the nature of man. That’s far more than what most Americans understand today. Jefferson is a voice from the past to lead us in the future:

John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the White House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement: “This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”

“When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe .”
– Thomas Jefferson

“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”
– Thomas Jefferson

“It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which, if acted on, would save one-half the wars of the world.”
– Thomas Jefferson

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”
– Thomas Jefferson

“My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.”
– Thomas Jefferson

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.”
– Thomas Jefferson

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”
– Thomas Jefferson

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”
– Thomas Jefferson

“To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”
– Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.
If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property – until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.”

CHAPTER 3 DISASTER STRIKES

ACTS 19:1-6

ACTS 19:1-6

by Ray Mossholder

Thinking they were what they should be

Wrapped in religion, warm and comfy,

The apostle Paul shook up these guys

And whittled their religion down to size

I’ve got a big question. It may come as a blow.

About the Holy Spirit, just what do you know?”

The Holy WHAT,” one of them replied,

The Holy Spirit,” Paul said. “You need Him inside.”

But we’ve given up sin,” another one said,

We’re being real good and using our head.

We don’t smoke any more or even chew

And we’ve given up all the women who do.

We are kind to old ladies, petting all dogs,

And we Jewish guys still don’t eat any hogs.

Isn’t God going to give us some kind of reward

For being so good? He will if He’s Lord.”

No that’s not how it works, you’re still under the Law

And trying to earn Brownie points just like your pa.

See, John the Baptist didn’t know the whole truth,

He just knew about Moses, Joshua and Ruth.

Stuck in Old Covenant, still trying to earn

His salvation the hard way, by taking his turn

At being an Eagle Scout, that’s NOT how it works,

He was real sincere, but his faith had some quirks.

He’d have been O.K. if he’d stuck around

But Salome danced and John’s head hit the ground.

Served on a platter, specialty of the day,

Herod turned pale, but what could he say?

He’d gotten so turned on by the way she dropped veils

That he turned out to be just like most other males.

He’d actually gone to visit John in jail

And had been thinking a lot about giving him bail.

Now he stared horror-stricken at John on that plate

And knew springing him now would be far too late.

I’m sad for Herod, he came so close

To changing eternally with the Holy Ghost

Now he mourns and he grizzles and cries all the time

He’s really a mess because of that crime.

Now, that brings me to what I have to share with you

Awesome news, fellows, and totally true.

Remember that day John cried “Behold the Lamb?”

And Jesus stepped forward, the great I AM,

To do what you’ve done, been dunked in the sea,

And coming out wet, but unlike He

You don’t have the Holy Spirit in you yet

And if you died now you’d eternally sweat.

Oh, how you need Him, but that’s coming fast

I am giving you the truth that really will last

The Messiah came and fulfilled the whole Law

Missing no jot or tittle, without any flaw,

The only reason He had John drop Him down in that water

Was to fulfill that part of the Law as a human blotter.

God the Father was pleased and spoke from above

And the Holy Spirit descended on Him just like a dove

He came out of that water, King of King, Lord of Lords,

Soon He and the devil would really cross swords.

Christ would win, of course, as He always will

And now guys get ready for a really big thrill.

Would you like to receive Christ and be forgiven,

Know the Messiah and really start livin’?

Because if you’ll pray with me right now

The Holy Spirit will come in and show you how.”

You bet we would,” they all said at once

“Anyone not taking that offer would be a dunce.

We have talked about it together before

We kept thinking that there has to be more

Than just trying to stay good and keeping laws

I mean, that might be enough for Santa Claus,

But even for Santa we couldn’t always be good

Or do all the things that we knew we should.”

They stood in Ephesus underneath a hot sun

And bowed their heads so this could be done.

Each prayed, “Jesus, forgive us for leaving You out

And thinking we could be good. Without any doubt.

We’ve failed miserably at keeping God’s rules

And we know we’ve been a bunch of fools.

We’ve mocked all You did to save our souls.

Seems like sending us to hell would be one of Your goals.

But it isn’t, for You died for us and for all

Who have or will ever live on this ball

called Earth. Your blood continually cleanses us

Even when we storm and cuss.

Like the sons of thunder did in Your gang

Who followed You til the angels sang.

It’s beyond us, but that goes without saying,

So come into our hearts and plan on staying.”

He will,” Paul promised, “for now and forever

All your ties with hell Christ did just now sever.

Now open your mouths and start praising God

And He’ll turn it to tongues, don’t think it odd.

And they did, and their tongues did, and it was so keen,

If you want to know the rest read Acts 19.”

ACTS 19:1-6

TO BE LIKE MORDECAI TODAY

by Ray Mossholder

To be honest, fearless, right;

Having vision and clear sight.

Speaking the truth in love.

Knowing that God above,

Is fully with you as you speak.

Risking all and staying meek.

And even when you win the prize

Staying humble in God’s eyes.

TAKING COMMUNION

TAKING COMMUNION

by Ray Mossholder

When you take the bread and wine

You are doing very fine.

The bread is Christ, the wine His blood,

Partaking of it releases a flood

That washes away all sickness and sin

And let’s the Christian start over again.

Our Lord never wants communion routine

He just wants you to know what the elements mean.

How often you do this depends on your need

As oft as you do it,” your spirit He’ll feed –

Every day, week, month or year.

Please don’t take it in religious fear.

Do it always in remembrance of He

Who gave His life to set you free.

TAKING COMMUNION

SOMETIMES THINGS HAPPEN JUST ONCE

SOMETIMES THINGS HAPPEN JUST ONCE

by Ray Mossholder

Did the happening come just once in time

Even a happening so sublime

That it makes you shout or gasp or wonder

Was it only for then – that roar of thunder

That brought Saul to his knees as he heard his name

And turned him to Paul of Holy Ghost fame?

Shall I turn what happened then into a Law

That thunder must clap and bring me to awe

Before I’ll be saved? I think not.

For nowhere else in Scripture is that lesson taught.

SOMETIMES THINGS HAPPEN JUST ONCE

MY WAY

 MY WAY

By Ray Mossholder

I want that apple over there,

My eating it is only fair.

Who cares God tells me there’s a law

That keeps it from my grasping paw?

When I want something I take it, see,

Because I come from a land that’s free.

A land that’s ruled by my wild will

Instead of truths from the gospel.

We burned all Bibles and the churches too

And threw God out so we could do

Whatever we want to whenever we like,

We told all Christians to take a hike.

Oh no! That guy’s got a gun

And he’s going to shoot me! End of fun.

MY WAY

GOLLY GEE – THEOLOGY!

GOLLY GEE – THEOLOGY!

by Ray Mossholder

A. God is three persons

Three in One?

Son of a gun!

I wonder how

THAT is done!

B. Each Person is fully God

Father, Son and Holy Ghost

Not one of them I love the most.

No need at all to pick or choose

They never compete, and never lose.

C. There is one God.

Thank God He is only One

My memory fades like the sun.

Should there be more, like the Romans said

I’d never keep them straight in my head.

GOLLY GEE – THEOLOGY!

ESCHATOLOGY

ESCHATOLOGY

by Ray Mossholder

Pre, mid or post, when I hear them again

I find myself eagerly shouting “Amen!”

So I’ve decided firmly that I just don’t know

How the end of time will really go.

Occupy til I come,” is what Jesus said.

So, I’m far too busy to get it into my head

That I have to know all the answers in life

God knows and to me that ends all the strife.

ESCHATOLOGY

CHAPTER 2 - THE ILLUMINATI

DANIEL IN THE 21st CENTURY

DANIEL IN THE 21st CENTURY

by Ray Mossholder

Consult every book, magazine or manual,

And you’ll never find a greater servant than Daniel.

At the Daniel whose name is the name of a Book

In the Bible, take a long look

At the courage, the faith, the true love of the Lord

That this Daniel had. His God he adored.

He had faith like a knight in shining armor.

He was a sight, a real charmer.

One day another Daniel was deeply engrossed in God’s Word

When a really cute girl said, “That’s so absurd

For you to be wrapped up so tight in that Book

That you haven’t taken a really good look

At me, ‘cause I love you and I want a kiss,

I don’t want to live the rest of my life as a Miss.

So put down that Bible and give me a smack

And you’ll find that I will kiss you right back.

We can go on and on like that for hours,

And when we’re done we’ll need cold showers!”

Now the girl was gorgeous and that’s the truth

Daniel had watched her at a kissing booth.

He’d not kissed her himself but just watched in awe

As guy after guy kissed her and then he saw

Them stagger away in ecstasy,

Delirious. happy as can be.

Daniel told her flat out, “No,

You’re too fast for me. I want to go slow.

There’s a lot more I want to happen in my life

Before I find the woman I want for a wife.”

Well, then quit talking about marriage, let’s make love

That’s what God is, so it comes from above.

He wants you to experience abundant life

You can’t do that without me.” She cut like a knife

At his willpower, because as she drew close

Her perfume got to him, she’d taken a dose

Of it and it smelled so sweet.

Daniel was suddenly swept off his feet.

Pucker up, baby!” the Delilah said,

And Daniel thought, “I wish I was dead.

Because I know this isn’t God’s will for me,

But my sins are forgiven since Christ died on that tree,

Whatever I do is washed in Christ’s blood,

Why not make love?” Then came a thud

As Daniel’s Bible hit the ground

And like an alarm clock, that very sound

Got his attention and he suddenly prayed,

God, help me!” And no time delayed

The strength came from the Lord to resist,

Later Daniel thought, “What if we’d kissed?

How far could temptation have taken me

Away from God’s will and His destiny

That He’d planned for me from before I was born?

Like Sampson, I almost was shorn!”

But the Lord is a mighty help in trouble

He’ll deliver you, and that goes double

For times of temptation that seem really hard

Until He has your angel set a guard.

It was Daniel’s angel that pushed the Book

From his hand that day and made him look

At what almost happened with that pretty girl

Who had his brain in such a whirl.

And to all who think guys like Daniel are geeks,

He’s getting married in seventy weeks

To a Christian lady who in every way

Would blow that other girl away.

They’ll be partners for life, with joy every day,

Following Jesus, together they’ll continue to pray.

And what if he’d instead married that eager youth?

He’d have lost her forever at a kissing booth!

DANIEL IN THE 21st CENTURY
